Current Resident Research

The research activities at the VCU School of Medicine are strong. The institution as a whole ranks in the upper one-third of all schools of medicine for NIH supported research. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has multiple research programs, both clinical and laboratory. Our department has been ranked by the American Association of Medical Colleges as 13th in Obstetrics and Gynecology in NIH funded research.

The resident scholarly activities at VCU provide education and experience in all phases of research including design, conduct, interpretation, and dissemination. PGY1 residents write a case report in journal submission format with the assistance of a senior level resident and faculty mentor. All residents are required to complete an independent research project by the PGY4 year, with close faculty guidance and oversight. The results are presented at the OB/GYN Annual Resident Research Day. We also strongly support presentation of research at local, regional, and national conferences, and will assist residents with publishing findings in peer reviewed journals.
