Residency Program

Didactics

Every Monday, our residents have an afternoon of didactics that provide an overview of topics commonly seen in the annual CREOG exams as well as licensing exams. During this time the following conferences are held:

  • Practice Based Learning Conference (each week at the end of the Practice Based Learning Conference alternating services present a 15-minute case presentation.)
  • Core Lectures
  • ACOG Practice Bulletins
  • Chair Rounds
  • Surgical Skills/Simulation Lab

Also on Mondays, a different PG-level of residents have a luncheon meeting with the program director. During this time they have a chance to discuss concerns, questions, and comments with the Program Director.

Every Wednesday we have Tumor Board a weekly meeting that encourages cooperation between multiple specialties to plan treatments for our oncology patients. The meeting consists of geneticists, radiologists, pathologists, research nurses, social workers, and clinical care coordinators. It is a great opportunity to discuss different treatment options, clinical studies, and interesting findings.

On Thursdays we have Grand Rounds from 7:30 am to 8:30 am where speakers from Virginia Commonwealth University or guest speakers from outside universities or private practice are invited to give presentations on a variety of topics. Chief residents are expected to give a Grand Rounds Presentation during his or her final year in the program.

Every Fridays there are Pre-Operative Conferences reviewing upcoming surgical cases and Surgical Skills/Simulation Lab for those residents on the gynecology rotation.

In addition to these didactics there are also daily rounds on the Gynecology, Oncology and Obstetrics services as well as Fetal Strip monitoring conferences and Pathology conferences.
