Success in treating conditions of the pelvic floor — so you can fully enjoy your life
At VCU Health, our Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery specialists use the latest technology and innovations to treat women with various conditions of the pelvic floor. We offer groundbreaking treatments. And we’re developing new ways to treat all types of gynecologic conditions, including nonsurgical methods as well as advanced surgery.
For the greatest success, your care might include one or more of these treatments:
- Pelvic floor physical therapy: Specific treatments include: changes in lifestyle, bladder retraining, pelvic muscle exercises, biofeedback and electrical stimulation (applying a mild electric current to nerves)
- Medicines: for urinary urgency, frequency and incontinence
- Specialized devices and treatments: For example, “vaginal pessaries” are removable devices placed in the vagina to improve or correct symptoms related to pelvic support disorders. Treatment such as injections of botox or collagen and nerve therapy are outpatient procedures for stress urinary incontinence
- Surgery: Your team of experts at VCU Health offers treatment using several different types of surgeries. These include: reconstructive pelvic surgery, laparoscopic and robotic surgery and other outpatient surgical techniques that research shows reduce pain and make recovery quicker
