M1–M2 Shadowing

M1 or M2 students interested in shadowing, please contact obgynshadowing@vcuhealth.org to learn of available options. Allow two weeks for processing.

Pre-Medical Students

1. Observers must be 16 years or older. A parent/guardian signature is required for observers under 18 years of age.

2. You are required to be cleared by the Health System and obtain a VCU Observer identification PRIOR to being considered for shadowing. 3. Email observer.program@vcuhealth.org or obgynshadowing@vcuhealth.org for an intake form to initiate the process.

4. Once your intake form is completed, the Observer Program Coordinator will email you the application packet for completion.

5. Your application requires the sponsor’s signature. To obtain a signature on behalf of the OBGYN Department, email obgynshadowing@vcuhealth.org.

6. Please contact Faith Mason-Bettis (Faith.MasonBettis@vcuhealth.org) to obtain immunization clearance.

7. Once the intake form, application, and immunization clearance has been completed, you will receive an approval email with date/time to pick up your Observer badge.

8. After completion of the above, email obgynshadowing@vcuhealth.org to be connected with available faculty.

9. Faculty availability will be updated at the start of each Fall and Spring semester.

IMPORTANT NOTES

· Allow two weeks for processing of your request.

· For students seeking longitudinal shadowing experiences: To form meaningful relationships with students AND to protect patient care, providers will only accept ONE student per semester for longitudinal shadowing experiences.

We recognize the importance and value that shadowing provides to future physicians. We hope to offer that to those with sincere interest in the field of obstetrics & gynecology. Given limitations, we will not be able to offer shadowing opportunities to all students requesting this. We encourage you to reach out to providers in other departments for opportunities if you cannot find availability.
