In VCU’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, we are dedicated to providing compassionate care and support for patients of all ages.

Led by Nicole Karjane, M.D. and Sarah Milton, M.D., the pediatric and adolescent gynecology clinic bridges the gap between pediatric care and gynecologic services. As the regional referral center for pediatric and adolescent gynecology and consult team for any gynecologic concerns that present to the pediatric emergency department, we treat young patients and those with developmental disabilities in the following areas:

  • Contraception
  • Endometriosis
  • Menstrual irregularities
  • Menstrual suppression
  • Sexual assault (in collaboration with pediatric emergency physicians and social workers)
  • Mullerian and other reproductive tract anomalies
  • Ovarian cysts or masses
  • Teen pregnancy
  • Transgender and nonbinary care
  • Vulvovaginitis

Education

Residents treat young patients alongside attending physicians during their gynecology rotations. They also have access to additional curriculum and training materials from the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.

If residents wish to complete a high-volume pediatric and adolescent OB/GYN rotation during their training, we allow and encourage external electives.
