VCU’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology believes that patients deserve respectful, compassionate and supportive care. Faculty members and residents provide a broad spectrum of family planning services, including:

  • Contraceptive counseling and management
  • Management of pregnancy loss in the first and second trimester
  • Options counseling and future pregnancy guidance
  • Interruption of pregnancy
  • Sterilization

Our family planning faculty are dedicated to ensuring that patients and their families have a full understanding of their options and receive comprehensive services and support.

Education

Residents spend one-month rotations in family planning during both PGY-1 and PGY-2 in keeping with requirements from the American Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements. We encourage those interested in pursuing a fellowship in complex family planning to gain additional exposure to the subspecialty during an elective rotation.
